I love spending time with friends, riding my bike, and being creative. I like listening to music; I listen to country, pop, and some rock. I also enjoy video games and getting creative by drawing and coloring. I’m pretty crafty, and I like making things with my hands. Reading has always been important to me. I enjoy a wide variety of books. Some people have even told me they could see me writing a book someday.

I’ve also participated in Unified Work and community events, and I stay active in social groups like the Valley Friendship Club. More recently, I’ve completed work-related trainings and earned certificates, including the Restaurant Ready program through my community education course.

Through volunteering, like working with Rangers Supporting Rangers to help families in need, or assisting with my sister’s occupational skills, inclusive play program, I learned that I love leading, helping, and giving back. I enjoy working with people of all abilities.

College has been on my mind for a long time. My siblings all went to college, and I’ve always felt like someday it would be my turn. I’ve also followed YouTubers who share their college experiences, and that gave me an idea of what college life could look like: living more independently, making friends, and building a future.

At a community college, I would focus on core classes such as math, life skills, and general education. If I attend a university, I’m especially interested in business, leadership, and entrepreneurship. I want to be a leader. I’ve always been drawn to leadership roles, even in high school. When I think about college, I picture myself living off campus, driving my own car someday, attending classes, and making meaningful friendships. I’m ready for more independence. I want to make more of my own choices.

One of my dreams is to run my own business. I’m interested in health and wellness products and lifestyle content. I enjoy social media and could see myself as an influencer or business owner. Creating or selling products that help people live better lives. I also care about advocacy. I’ve been encouraged to use my voice and stand up for myself and others, and I want to keep doing that.

For me, going to college means living a “normal” adult life. I’m also working on building more independent living skills. Cooking and some daily living tasks still make me nervous, but I know I can learn them. I have Down syndrome, but that is just one part of who I am. I want the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue my goals just like anyone else. I’m excited about college, but I also have fears. I worry about being discriminated against because I have Down syndrome. I don’t want to be judged or underestimated. At the same time, I know I’m strong. I don’t back down from challenges. I will stand up for myself.

I believe college will help me build stability, independence, and meaningful friendships. It will help me become more productive, more confident, and more secure in who I am. I want a life filled with purpose, leadership, and connection.

I’m ready for my turn.
